Persuasive Writing Edible Bugs
🐛Eating Edible Bugs🐛
By: Annika DeLacey
I am learning to persuade my audience using persuasive writing.
What is the first word that comes to your mind when I say you should cook with bugs? “Ewwww?” Yes, that would probably come to your mind because that's what most people would say, but actually if you try them you might end up liking bugs because 90% of people that try bugs like them. I believe that everyone should try bugs, maybe as a creative dinner or a tasty treat.
Why shouldn’t we eat bugs as tasty treats? You can make scorpion lollipops, ginger cricket biscuits and mealworm fries but there are many more to try. If I were you I wouldn’t wait to try them because they are very tasty and we all need a treat sometimes right? So why don’t you add them to your everyday meals or maybe for a little snack throughout the day, especially because they are also very healthy.
Of course! Bugs are definitely healthy. They have lots of protein, vitamins, minerals and essential fats, plus, they don’t produce greenhouse gases. Bugs are great to eat in your everyday diet and they also have the same amount of protein as an egg. The healthiest bugs to have are beetles, cockroaches and crickets. Plus they are very low in calories so you can eat as many as you want. Not only bugs are healthy and tasty but they are also very fun to cook with. You can make a very creative meals with them and you can have it for dinner.
Don’t have any creative ideas for dinner? Well why don't you try cooking with bugs. There are some very creative ideas out there to try, for example, you can dip them in chocolate and eat them with tacos. Some bugs you can eat are mealworms, crickets, beetles, cockroaches, worms and the list could go on. Want to know more ways of cooking bugs? Well you can fry them, boil them and roast them. I bet once you finish your meal you will love its flavour and be delighted of how wonderful it is.
In conclusion you can see plenty of ways to cook with insects. From healthy to sweet, from their looks to their taste. So just remember bugs are very high in protein and great for a daily snack. They are also extremely tasty and great for something on the go as well and there are millions of recipes you can try. This is why I strongly agree with cooking with insects.

Irish Dancing
On the 17th of November Saturday 2018 a group of children performed Irish dancing at the Eden Albert festival. There was a group of senior girls, middle school girls and junior girls. We wore a green tutu, black pants or shorts and a top with a big painted three leaf clover on it. Our hearts were pounding as we walked on stage and the adrenaline was getting closer but as we got off we got a very big applause and we were all happy with our performance.
Prayers
Week 5 and 6 were busy for Room 6 we presented our assembly in week 5 and had whole school prayers
On Monday, Week 6. Our theme for prayers was community, compassion and discipleship. This was inspired as we approach Christmas and start to think about others and those who are in need of help. Our reading was 1 John 3: 16-18, we also presented a song that we put lyrical dances moves to our song was: So will I.

Kapa Haka
Mana, power and pride would be a few words to describe the feeling as the Good Shepherd School Kapa Haka group took the stage. During the weekend a large group of year 5 and 6 students took to the stage to perform at the Eden Albert Cultural Festival. There were a few nerves before we started but once we were underway the excitement of performing kicked in. We felt proud as a team to perform for so many people. Kia Kaha! The highlight of Kapa Haka for me was the song named Hareruia
Athletics
The harder the battle the sweeter the victory!
All of Good Shepherd School piled into buses as we headed to Three Kings Fields for the annual Athletics Day event. We had been training for weeks and we were ready to take on our peers and to compete for a placing. The events were running, long jump, high jump, discus and shot put. My favourite event was long jump because i love jumping and sand so jumping and sand is even better.
Assembly
"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."
Week 5 was non stop for Room 6 with athletics, kapa haka and Irish dancing. But it was also our final assembly for the year, and for some of us our final assembly at Good Shepherd School. This was the perfect time for us to share some of our talents and learning. We had been focusing on New Zealand music through our passport tasks so it was only fitting to pick a kiwi classic; Six Months in a Leaky Boat by Split Enz (written in 1982). We sung along to the words and put some of groovy moves together to create a dance. Throughout the year one of our favourite activities was reading Chris Gurney’s books during book week. Chris has written so many wonderful and humourous traditional tales with a kiwi voice. We absolutely adore her books, so for our assembly we presented a Readers Theatre: Trev and the Kauri Tree.

Saint Slides
Our focus this term in
Religious Education was the Communion of Saints. We learnt about the three parts of the Communion of Saints and how we are all connected. The Communion of Saints is bonded through prayer, baptism and the EucharistFriday, 9 November 2018
Communion of Saints
In Religious Education we have been learning about the Communion of Saints. The first group is people who are living, the second group is people in purgatory and the third is people in Heaven. Living is people on earth Purgatory is people getting ready to be with God in Heaven and Heaven is people with God.
Our teacher put us in those three group and then tied them up. Then she taped all three groups together and it looked like this.

Year Five Retreat
On the second of November 2018, all the year fives from our school went out for our retreat. We got there on a bus in the morning. They had a lunch room and a statue of our lady. Some things we did were treasure hunts, lighting candles and playing a lot of games. The year fives were very lucky to have this experience and it was lots of fun.
